On April 8, 2024, Governor Youngkin of Virginia vetoed a bill aimed at establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) in the state, opting instead to advocate for increased transparency in drug pricing. The proposed legislation would have empowered the PDAB to set upper payment limits on prescription drugs. The veto reasoned that there is a lack of evidence indicating that implementing such limits would effectively reduce drug prices and could potentially restrict access to essential medications and life-saving treatments for patients.
