medi-calA new study conducted by researchers at the University of California – Davis found that cancer patients covered by the state’s low-income health plan fare much worse than those with other types of insurance. Medi-Cal patients were found to have lower survival rates and are less likely to get recommended treatment. The study is the first of its kind to examine the impact of various kinds of health insurance across multiple types of cancer, utilizing the California Cancer Registry to study 700,000 Californians diagnosed with breast, colon, prostate, rectal and lung cancers between 2004 and 2012.
