MDPC’s New Policy Paper on Parkinson’s Disease Care Access

0

This month, the Movement Disorder Policy Coalition (MDPC) released a new policy paper, “Parkinson’s Disease: Improving Treatment While Working Toward a Cure.” Authored by physicians, this paper sheds light on critical opportunities for policymakers to enhance care for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. It addresses access barriers such as scarcity of specialty care, health plan restrictions, and coverage delays for new treatments. The paper proposes a multipronged solution, including policy changes to reduce insurance restrictions, ensuring timely coverage for newly approved therapies, enhancing telehealth access for specialist support, and incentivizing medical students to pursue neurology.
