On October 4, 2021, the Governors of Kentucky, New Mexico, and Maine announced they had transitioned from the federal health care marketplace exchange to individual state-based health care marketplace exchanges. By developing state-based health care marketplaces, these states can benefit from subsidies created in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), while also expanding coverage and providing additional state-based subsidies to state residents. The New Mexico marketplace opened for plan viewing on October 1, 2021, while Maine and Kentucky Marketplaces open for plan viewing on October 15, 2021.
