Federal Bill Introduced to Limit AI’s Role in Coverage Denials

A bipartisan group of federal lawmakers introduced the Doctor’s Not AI Act, which would the bill would limit AI to a supporting role in health care coverage decisions, requiring continued human oversight rather than allowing AI to replace providers. More specifically, it would allow insurers to use AI to help process claims but would require a human review before denying care based on medical necessity. The bill also seeks to ensure parity in coverage determinations for mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
