Democrats’ Big 2016 Campaign Issue: Health Care Underinsurance

0

Health care underinsurance will be a big campaign issue for Democrats in the coming 2016 elections. Many low- and middle-income patients are facing high costs when trying to use their coverage, even after paying premiums. Congressional leader on health care, Representative Jim McDermott (D-WA) said “Democrats have a responsibility to make sure coverage translates to meaningful benefits.” Robert Blendon, a professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health echoes the same sentiment: “Democrats need an election-year health care narrative about how to improve Obama’s law. The issue that has come up repeatedly is the impact that high deductibles are having on moderate income people.” To read more on this issue, head here.
