Conscious Uncoupling: Walmart and CVS to Part Ways

Walmart and CVS have been working together to offer commercial and Medicare Part D prescription coverage, but the two businesses have decided to abandon the partnership after failing to agree on pricing terms. Derica Rice, president of CVS, issued a statement criticizing Walmart’s motivations: “At a time when everyone is working hard to find ways to reduce healthcare costs, Walmart’s requested rates would ultimately result in higher costs for our clients and consumers.” Walmart will no longer be a part of CVS’ network after April 30, 2019.
