On August 7, 2026, Aimed Alliance sent the West Virginia House of Delegate a letter supporting H.B. 4984, which would prohibit prior authorization and step therapy requirements for serious mental illness (SMI) treatments. The letter explains that individuals with conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression already face significant barriers to care, and additional insurance restrictions can delay access to effective treatment and worsen health outcomes. Aimed Alliance also highlights the growing recognition among states of the need to protect access to SMI treatments and noted that several states have recently enacted or considered similar reforms.
