The Lower Health Care Costs Act Clears the Senate HELP Committee

On June 26, 2019, the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee passed the Lower Health Care Costs Act of 2019 with a bipartisan 20-3 vote. Aimed Alliance has been closely monitoring this legislation and is pleased to see it advance through the Senate. The Lower Health Care Costs Act contains several provisions that would address the rising cost of health care, including putting an end to surprise out-of-network medical bills, eliminating gag clauses and anticompetitive terms in pharmacy benefit manager contracts, and increasing competition in the prescription drug market. Following the Committee’s approval, the bill is headed to the Senate floor where the full chamber will vote on it, though a vote has not yet been scheduled.
