Step Therapy Reform: Clinical Peer Review of Step Therapy Decision Making

In 2022, the New York Legislature passed S8113 and A879 which requires a clinical peer-reviewer to be a licensed health care professional in the same profession and same or similar specialty as the health care provider who typically manages the medical condition or disease or provides the health care service or treatment under review.  

Aimed Alliance supports mandating that any step therapy determinations for a specific condition be made by a physician who specializes in that condition. This ensures that any decision to require a patient to try alternative treatments is made in consideration of the specific medical needs of the patient.
