Aetna’s former Medical Director admits under oath that he did not review patients’ records before deciding whether to deny or approve care. California’s Insurance Commissioner has launched an investigation to determine the pervasiveness of the practice. The Commissioner suggested that the former Medical Director’s actions may have violated the law, and he encourages patients who believe that they may have been negatively impacted by Aetna’s benefit determinations to contact his office.
