Aimed Alliance Urges North Dakota Legislative Assembly to Pass Copay Accumulator Reform

0

On April 13, 2023, Aimed Alliance sent a letter to the North Dakota Legislative Assembly urging the Assembly to swiftly pass copay accumulator reform.  When patients cannot afford their medications, they may rely on financial assistance from pharmaceutical manufacturers and other third parties to meet their health plan’s cost-sharing responsibilities. The value of this third-party assistance should count towards the individual’s deductible and annual out-of-pocket limit. However, some health plans have implemented copay accumulator programs that prohibit the third-party assistance from counting towards the individual’s deductible and annual out-of-pocket limits. Copay accumulator programs can disproportionately affect patients whose conditions are managed or treated by drugs in specialty formulary tiers with greater cost sharing. Read the letter read here.
