Pediatricians Recommend Depression, Cholesterol, & HIV Testing

doctor examining a child in a hospitalThe American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending that patients aged 11 and older be screened for depression, patients between ages 9 and 11 be screened for high blood cholesterol, and patients between ages 16 and 18 be screened for HIV. With suicide as one of the top three causes of death among teenagers and with 25 percent of new HIV infections occurring between ages 13 and 24, these changes can have a major impact on pediatric care.
