On January 31, 2022, Aimed Alliance released a new fact sheet titled Patients with Cancer Must Be Able to Access the Chemotherapy Treatment That is Right for Them. This fact sheet provides an overview of cancer diagnosis in the United States and typical treatments . Although treatments may vary between patients, most treatments typically require the use of chemotherapy. While chemotherapy is available in both an oral and intravenous format, health plans have begun charging patients more for electing to choose the oral chemotherapy treatment instead of the intravenous treatment. Deciding what type of chemotherapy is best for a patient is a decision that must be between the patient and their provider, not an insurer’s unfair cost-sharing requirements. Therefore, our fact sheet urges Congress to adopt federal legislation that would require health plans to impose the same cost-sharing requirements irrespective of whether a patient receives oral or intravenous chemotherapy treatments.
