On June 15, 2026, Aimed Alliance, alongside KIF1A.ORG, sent a letter to the Massachusetts Division of Insurance and the Office of Health and Human Services, advocating for the expansion of the “Accelerating Kids Timely Access to Care Act” (AKTAC) requirements to include Medicaid beneficiaries over the age of 21 who are living with rare disorders. While the current law requires a streamlined enrollment process for out-of-state specialists to treat children, Aimed Alliance and KIF1A.ORG argued that this coverage should extend to adults with rare disorders to ensure continuity of care. Many individuals with complex conditions, such as KIF1A-associated neurological disorder (KAND), rely on specialized Centers of Excellence for consistent, life-long treatment. The letter emphasizes that forcing patients to leave their established care teams after 21 risks adverse health outcomes and increases long-term systemic costs.
