On October 19, Aimed Alliance sent a letter to the Washington Health Care Authority urging them to adopt an open access formulary for serious mental illness (SMI) treatments. The letter argues that patients with SMI already face significant barriers to care and utilization management tools such as step therapy and prior authorization can delay access to effective medications and worsen health outcomes. It highlights growing state efforts to limit these restrictions for mental health treatments and cites evidence suggesting that open access policies can reduce hospitalizations and lower overall health care costs.
