Aimed Alliance Urges Congressional Action to Address Improper Health Insurance Claim Denials

0

On April 17, 2026, Aimed Alliance sent a letter to the House Education & Workforce Committee in response to its report, “Denied: How the Health Care Industry Stacks the Deck Against Working Families,” reinforcing the report’s findings with data from Aimed Alliance’s own fifty‑state analysis.

Aimed Alliance’s research shows widespread gaps in transparency, data collection, and proactive oversight by state insurance regulators. Although states have authority to enforce consumer protection laws such as prior authorization and step therapy, enforcement largely relies on consumer complaints, despite appeals data showing high reversal rates that suggest many denials are inappropriate and accountability is weakened by limited or nonpublic reporting. To address these gaps, Aimed Alliance’s letter advocates for legislation requiring detailed public reporting on utilization management and urges Congress to advance reforms that strengthen transparency, oversight, and enforcement to protect access to medically necessary care.
