“Nonmedical switching” is a cost-cutting measure used by insurers whereby stable patients are forced to switch their current medications to often less effective medications with no medical justification. For people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, epilepsy, or rheumatoid arthritis, this drug swapping is especially harmful. The Florida Patient Stability Act will allow individuals suffering from rare medical conditions and chronic pain to stay on the same treatment regimen proven most effective as long as they stay on the same health plan.
