Close up of a man using mobile smart phoneMedic One Foundation, in conjunction with the Seattle Fire Department, is introducing a new phone app that turns regular bystanders into first responders. The free app, called PulsePoint, notifies volunteers capable of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when someone collapses nearby, allowing critically important medical assistance to be administered, sometimes even before emergency personnel arrive. PulsePoint hopes to get 15,000 “citizen responders” to download the app in the next several months in an effort to boost Seattle’s already high rate of bystander CPR.
