Many pharmacists are barred from disclosing to patients that co-pays for generic medicines are sometimes more expensive than paying out-of-pocket due to gag clauses in their contracts. The extra money, called clawbacks – higher prices negotiated by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) – can increase profits for PMBs while patients pay more and have prompted multiple lawsuits.
