Join Aimed Alliance and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for a FREE webinar titled “Mandated Coverage of Marijuana as a Health Benefit? What Employers Need to Know” on December 2, 2020 from 12:00 pm ET to 1:00 pm ET. This webinar will feature a discussion of recent efforts to cover cannabidiol (CBD) as a health and workers’ compensation benefit, and the impact of those efforts on employees and employers.

Legalization of marijuana creates unique challenges for employers, including workplace safety issues and hiring and firing decisions. Legalization is especially problematic for employers with workers in safety-sensitive positions. Employers must also wrestle with the fact their employees may use marijuana for medical reasons, even though the products employees use have not undergone review by and received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and therefore have unknown safety and efficacy profiles and unpredictable composition and quality.

Some states have also recently introduced legislation requiring insurers to cover non-FDA-approved marijuana products as a health or workers’ compensation benefit.

In this program, forensic toxicologist Michelle Peace, Ph.D., and attorney Stacey Worthy will address legislative developments regarding coverage of marijuana as a health and workers’ compensation benefit, important health and safety considerations, and potential legal consequences for employers.

Those who attend will earn one SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP professional development credit.
