Legislation Lifting “Gag Clauses” in Several States Empowers Pharmacists to Inform Consumers of Cost Savings

State officials in at least five states have enacted laws to end “gag clauses” imposed on pharmacists by pharmacy benefit managers. The gag clauses restrict pharmacists from informing customers that they may save money if they pay cash for their prescriptions instead of processing the payments through insurance.
