Last week, a woman a filed a suit against a health insurance company after it failed to cover the cost of a critically important drug that cures hepatitis C. The drug, Harvoni, has been proven to destroy the deadly hepatitis C virus in most patients. The insurer has refused to pay for the treatment cost, despite the fact that the woman’s physician prescribed it to her and petitioned the insurer to cover it. The insurer argued that the cure was “not medically necessary” because the woman does not have advanced liver damage. Head more about this lawsuit here.
