Electronic patient records, which are designed to coordinate health care and reduce mistakes, may be doing the opposite in some cases due to alert fatigue. Electronic records increasingly include alerts tied to patients’ health information, and the number of pop-messages has become unmanageable and overwhelming for practitioners.
