A California committee will soon vote on the Pharmaceutical Cost Transparency Act, a bill that will require only pharmaceutical manufacturers to reveal costs. The bill establishes additional barriers for patient access to life-saving treatments, and also stifles research and innovation. Additionally, the bill singles out pharmaceutical manufacturers but does not address the role played by others in pricing, such as insurers and pharmacy benefit managers. Any bill that calls for drug price transparency must require transparency from the insurance industry, hospitals, and pharmacy benefit managers too. Read more here.
