HIV rates in Washington, DC have significantly declined from a decade ago, holding the city as a model throughout the country in tackling the epidemic. With a goal to end the epidemic by 2020, the city has used aggressive strategies, including starting awareness campaigns, encouraging residents to get tested, implementing a needle exchange program, and promoting the use of PrEP to prevent HIV transmission.
