Two infants with leukemia at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital have been treated with engineered T-cells from a donor – the first treatment of its kind – and had their cancer go into remission. Doctors are optimistic about the treatment and hope this raises the possibility of using inexpensive supplies of universal cells for future cancer treatments, though there are still doubts over the applicability of this method and where this would leave drug companies.
