Cassidy Unveils 340B Investigation Findings and Reform Suggestion

0

Senate Health Committee Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released findings from a multi-year investigation into the 340B drug discount program focusing on how safety net providers and contract pharmacies use program savings. The report found that hospitals generate hundreds of millions of dollars in 340B revenue without directly passing savings on to patients. While some hospitals stated that they used the savings to fund capital projects and community programs, they failed to specify the exact expenses covered by 340B revenue. In response to the findings, Senator Cassidy is considering legislative reforms, including requiring detailed annual reporting on the use of 340B revenue, addressing barriers that limit patient savings, imposing reporting requirements entities that support participating 340B-covered entities, and establishing clearer guidelines to ensure that 340B drug discounts directly benefit patients. View the report here.
