On November 18, 2023, Aimed Alliance attorneys spoke at the annual conference of the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) in Orlando, Florida. Aimed Alliance’s presentation, titled “Cannabinoid Clarity: The Need for Federal Legislation to Protect Consumers, States, and Industry,” covered the shortcomings of current federal regulation of cannabinoid-containing consumer products. For example, consumers are exposed to potentially contaminated or intoxicating products, states have difficulty protecting their citizens from items in interstate commerce, and industry blames regulatory uncertainty for slow sector growth. Following the presentation, Aimed Alliance attorneys participated in a question-and-answer session with women legislators. NFWL members then passed a resolution urging the U.S. Congress to provide the Food and Drug Administration with the authority and resources to regulate consumer products such as CBD oils, and recognizing the need for a new federal regulatory framework and enforcement mechanisms to mitigate product risks and protect consumers from harm.
