In March 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration released it’s FY2025 budget proposals to broaden healthcare coverage and access; and improve health outcomes.
Building on initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the proposed budget would expand the drug price negotiation program to at least 500 drugs over the next ten years, and cap insulin costs at $35 per month. To ensure broader coverage, the budget also proposes to make enhanced premium tax credits permanent, extend Medicaid-like coverage to low-income individuals in non-expansion states, implement consumer surprise billing protections for ground ambulances, and enhance continuity of coverage for children enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP.
Moreover, the budget proposes to strengthen maternal and reproductive health outcomes by investing in family planning services, addressing maternal mortality disparities, and promoting access to reproductive healthcare. Lastly, the budget prioritizes behavioral healthcare, with significant investments to increase access to services, expand the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and improve substance use disorder treatment.
