AMHCA Submits Letter to Senators Wyden and Crapo on Improving Mental and Behavioral Health Access for Patients

On November 1, 2021, the Alliance for Mental Healthcare Access (AMHCA) submitted a letter to Senator Ron Wyden and Senator Mike Crapo of the United States Senate Finance Committee on expanding access to mental and behavioral health services. Our letter thanked the Senators for their work in addressing issues related to mental and behavioral health and urged them to take action to address non-medical switching for patients with mental health disorders. The letter advocated for the Senators to take action by enforcing the guaranteed renewability provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA); prohibiting demonstration projects that would remove protections in the Six Protected Classes; and authorizing a report exploring the impact of non-medical switching on patients with mental health conditions. The letter received wide support and had seventeen organizational signatories. The full letter can be read here.
