Despite awareness campaigns and new laws requiring health insurance companies to fully pay for cancer screenings, a new government survey finds Americans are skipping life-saving cancer tests. Dr. Lisa Richardson, director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, says “we must find new ways to make people and providers aware that getting tested for colorectal cancer could prevent cancer and save their lives.” Taking steps in this direction, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has recently updated their mammography recommendations, which calls for women over 50 to get a mammogram every other year.
