The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky has been facilitating an ongoing discussion on the need for health care price transparency. The main focus of the Foundation’s efforts is in establishing an all-payer claims database to be used as an essential tool in price transparency for consumers and stakeholders. According to the Foundation, the database should help consumers make informed health care decisions, it should be considered a public utility, and should provide useful and actionable data to policy makers, providers, payers, employers, researchers, and consumers.
