Aimed Alliance’s Public Policy Director Stacey L. Worthy was honored to present at the fourth annual National Rx Drug Abuse Summit, which was held on April 6-9, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The summit is the largest national collaboration of professionals from local, state, and federal agencies, business, academia, clinicians, treatment providers, counselors, educators, state and national leaders, and advocates impacted by prescription drug abuse. The goal of this type of collaboration is to grow our collective impact in bringing solutions to this issue that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declared a public health crisis in 2012.
Ms. Worthy presented a session on the black market prescription drugs and biologics entitled Lessons from the Supply Side. This session applies lessons from the opioid abuse epidemic to protect consumers from black market prescription drugs. The presentation included an overview of prescription drug fraud and abuse, the evolution of the opioid abuse epidemic to biologics, consumer awareness, practitioner education and enforcement, and policy responses to protect consumers from black market prescription drugs.
Aimed Alliance was among several notable attendees, including U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5th), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell, Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Michael Botticelli, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, and U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (WV).
