Aimed Alliance Urges Amendments to Virginia’s PDAB Bill to Protect Patient Access

0

On March 13, 2026, Aimed Alliance sent a letter to Governor Abigail Spanberger urging amendments to Virginia’s House Bill 483, which would cap certain prescription drug reimbursements at Medicare’s “maximum fair price.” The letter warned that the H.B. 483 could unintentionally restrict patient access, as upper payment limits (UPLs) may increase utilization management, alter formularies, and reduce access to treatments. It emphasized that price‑cap models in the U.S. and abroad consistently struggle to meaningfully incorporate patient, provider, and caregiver perspectives, and cautioned that relying on MFPs would adopt these shortcomings. To avoid unintended consequences, Aimed Alliance recommended requiring a comprehensive study before implementing any price‑cap system, to evaluate real‑world impacts, evaluate alternative reforms, and ensure transparent patient engagement.
