According to a recent survey conducted by Consumer Reports, the cost of generic medications are increasing. Between August 2013 and August 2014, half of all generic medications had risen in price, and 10 percent of those medications rose by 100 percent or more. One of the reasons for the rise in generic costs can be attributed to mid-year formulary changes by insurance companies that end coverage for certain types of medications or shift the medication to a costlier tier on the plan’s formulary. Aimed Alliance does not support the use of insurance company practices that unreasonably shift greater costs onto patients or end coverage of certain treatments. These discriminatory tactics place tremendous barriers to access, and they force patients to pay higher out-of-pocket costs or forgo treatment altogether.
