Legislation has been introduced in the Hawaii House that would ensure prior authorization requirements do not negatively impact patients. The bill, HI HB 885, would prohibit health insurance companies from creating preauthorization requirements that cause undue delay in receipt of medical treatment or services, and would specify that insurers are liable for civil damages caused by undue delays for preauthorization.
