Middlemen could be causing patients to overpay medicines by negotiating prescription drug prices and retaining the price difference owed to pharmacies. These middlemen or pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), act as negotiators between insurance companies and pharmacists to process prescriptions by negotiating with drug manufacturers and handling patient claims.
