Ohio Legislature Passes Bill to Protect Patients from Step Therapy

0

The Ohio legislature passed SB 265, which strengthens protections for patients who are subject to step therapy by their insurer. Step therapy occurs after a doctor prescribes medication an insurance company may consider too new or expensive, forcing the patient to try other drugs that may not work before the company will pay for their original prescription. Aimed Alliance supports measures like SB 265 because they create strong guard-rails to ensure that cost-containment tools like step therapy do not adversely impact patient access to care.
