Supported by a study of health insurer mergers, the American Medical Association (AMA) has request that the Justice Department stop the proposed mergers between the nation’s four largest insurance companies. According to AMA analysis, the proposed mergers are occurring in markets with a near total collapse of competition, leading to an inevitable reduction in health plan quality and higher costs.
