Insurers Offer Health Care Providers Advance Payment To Ease COVID-19 Financial Strain

UnitedHealth Group and Blue Shield of California recently announced that they will provide health care practitioners with accelerated payments and other financial support to alleviate some of pressure from the COVID-19 public health emergency. UnitedHealth Group will be providing $2 billion and Blue Shield of California will be providing $200 million to practitioners and hospitals. United’s advance payments will be offered to fully insured commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid plans. Blue Shield of California will offer direct support to providers through financial guarantees, advance payments, and contract restructuring.
