States Fail Hep C Patients by Falling Short on CMS Guidelines

A new report shows that state Medicaid programs are failing to meet Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines on access to hepatitis c treatments and may be violating federal law in doing so. While many states have removed restrictions requiring patients to have advanced liver damage, they still require patients to see a specialist rather than a primary care physician and maintain sobriety before they can access medications that cures the disease.
