Many Fla. Health Insurers Use Discriminatory Cost-Containment Practices

The AIDS Institute recently studied silver-level qualified health plans sold on Florida’s health insurance marketplace in 2015 and discovered eight of the 12 insurers had discriminatory cost-containment practices for hepatitis B and C drugs. Carl Schmid, deputy executive director of the AIDS Institute, says “the goal was to show to regulators and the insurers, too, that it’s not just HIV in Florida, and the problem isn’t fixed…insurers are not supposed to be deterring patients, and that’s what they’re doing.” Modern Healthcare covered the story and you can also read the institute’s full report here.
